Warm Again!

Welcome to October and welcome to the weekend. In the bulk of the UK (I'm in the north east) it's been an unseasonably hot day and Gravesend in the south hit 29.9 Celsius today, an all time record for October.

I said 'white rabbit' three time in the early hours of the morning to greet October and give me luck for the month. The picture on the top is the cat fast asleep on his head in the dappled sunshine.

The picture above is an insect we see quite a lot at this time of the year (about half an inch long) and I have no idea what it is. What is remarkable is when you magnify the head end, blimey what a creature! Anyone know what it is please let me know.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

  1. I have never seen the likes of that insect but if you go to Stuart Dunlop's site (Donegal Wildlife on my side bar) he will identify it for you.

  2. Looks like one of the shield bugs to me. Couldn't tell you which one though.

We've been up to your neck of the woods today. It's been glorious weather hasn't it?

  3. Hi Weaver
Many thanks for the hint - I'll do that and post back. Also the picture was of the Humber Bridge last winter when the water was warmer than the incredibly cold air and mist rolls onto the river from the Lincolnshire Wolds.

    Hi MorningAJ
That's interesting, I'm going to send the picture to someone Weaver has on her site and I'll post back - but I'll send the hint that it may be what you say it is - it looks like a shield. The weather has indeed been glorious, I was in the garden all day yesterday (Saturday) in vest and shorts - hence why today, it is cloudier!
